- Oh the tragedy of Auden's Musee des Beaux Arts - Sunday, October 01, 2006

This week I had the pleasure of reading Auden's "Musee des Beaux Arts" I enjoyed this poem because it made me think about today's culture. Have we become desensitized to violence and tragedy around us? If so, is this a good or bad thing? I think if we focused so much on the bad things and the tragedy that happens all around us, we would not be able to enjoy the good things in life. I think the poem argues that tragedy is part of life and must occur. In nature life is created and taken away daily. Nature does not stop because a flower died or a spider eats the fly, it is only part of nature and must occur in order for nature to continue. Not that I am saying we should ignore tragedy, or try to prevent catastrophes and oppression from occurring, just that we can't all dwell in it. Well that is all for now, take what you want and leave the rest.
