Okay here is another rant on the racists' comments of the world. Why do I feel the urge to respond to everyone who makes a stupid ignorant uncalled for comment about race? I grew up in an accepting family full of all religions (or lack of religion) and races (I have white, American Indian, and Hispanic relatives). I lived, for the majority of my life, sheltered in a middle class family who always prided themselves on accepting those who had less or more than we did. I did not grow up in the "ghetto" or live in the bad parts of town. So I cannot say I understand why people are afraid to walk down the street, or why they believe some races are lazy and play the race card every chance they get. This was true for the majority of my life, however, when my parents got divorce most of these views I held could have gone out the window and I could have become the biggest racist ever to walk the face of the earth. But, I didn't. Why, because I realize one thing. People are individuals with individual traits. Regardless of rather those traits are bad or good, we each hold and are responsible for our own actions and consequences. You control your own actions and know one else's. So back to my point. When I was a teenager, I lived in a world of violence perpetrated by a man who happened to be white. He used all sorts of racists words that I will never repeat or use even to this day. The "N" word is not acceptable to me even by those who are of my race. He so-called loved "black woman" but hated "black men" as if there is some sort of difference because of the gender. Do I believe all white people are racists because of this one man? Never. His actions were strictly his own. He spoke for himself and not for the entire white race. I have friend of all races and colors and religions. Why, because life is too short to exclude those who are different than I am. My son will grow up in a world full of people who will despise him because of the color of his skin, but I will never let him use this as an excuse to not succeed. I do not need to prove others wrong. I live my life in my own way. I love others for their actions, not for what they look like on the outside. Did you know that there isn't a trait for race. Everyone of us could have simply been born another race than we are now. Think about it. Are animals all different colors? A cat is still a cat regardless of what color its mane is. Do we say because that animal is this color, it must be better than the other? A good watch dog comes in all sorts of breeds and colors. Why do we judge human being for what is on the outside? We all have the same organs, the same veins, and the same heart that pumps blood throughout our body. We are all the same on the inside regardless of the package God choose to put us in. Does God love us less for the package? Judge a man by his actions, not by what he looks like on the outside. Judge a man by his actions, not by what he chooses to call his faith. In the end we will all be judged for how we choose to live our lives. We are responsible for the actions we do and the conflict we create for others. If the entire world thought that the actions of one constituted the actions of all, what kind of world would that be to live in? I can never change the minds of others, nor do I intend to do so with my words that I have written here. I live for myself and I take responsibility to the actions and words I use. I am a flawed individual, but I am not a flawed black individual. Do not call my flawed behavior that of all black individuals. Do not blame my actions and the traits I choose to carry as that of all black people. Do not take my words as that of all black people, or because I am black. I am an accepting "person". I belong to the human race. My words are mine alone. Take what you want and leave the rest.
